Online Tools for Youth Engagement

How can we make use of the internet to make it possible for youth to express themselves? This is a question that has been underlying several of the projects of Linking Europe.

Showcase #PrismaEU

As follow-up activities for PRISMA, Linking Europe will further investigate the democratic possibilities of online tools. The first step in the process, is the creation of the showcase for online tools. This showcase collects the ways Dutch youth organizations work towards social engagement. Creative writing, job hunting, citizen initiatives in parliament, local newscasting, exploring memory culture, signing up for workshops; the showcase shows that these things can all be enhanced with online tools.

The showcase is meant to explore possibilities and get inspired. The showcase was presented by Linking Europe at the PRISMA seminar in Cluj-Napoca and will further be presented at a meeting with the Our Matters project of Community Building Mitrovica in Utrecht, the Netherlands. From here onwards, the showcase can be utilized as a starting point for discussion in further events. If you want to use this in your own event, feel welcome to do so and also do not hesitate to contact us if you have further ideas. Linking Europe is looking forward to exploring more ideas on how to increase spaces for youth to express themselves in social debates.

By joining the PRISMA project, we want to take the time to find out more about the utility for self-advocacy and social engagement. During a training in December in Bucharest, Romania and a seminar in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, we focused on the usage of social media with more than twenty European organizations. It was very inspiring and educative to exchange all of our experiences. Where Linking Europe has tried out much with writing essays and online collaboration for research, other organizations had more experience with giving video workshops or creating educative materials. When it comes to social media, much is still to be explored.
